Description
Romeo and Julieta was first performed as a Havana in 1875 and was named after the tragic lovers in William Shakespeare’s plays.
Under the leadership of Don “Pepin” Rodriguez, a gifted promoter who was one of the first to understand the cigar band’s potency, the brand achieved worldwide renown in the early 1900s. In his prime, at least 20,000 distinct bands were employed in the cigar-making process.
Winston Churchill became a fan of the brand, and after his trip to Havana in 1946, his name was used to describe the brand’s most well-known size, Romeo y Julieta Churchills, in addition to being honoured on a band.
